Lesson #1 From Writing Our Book

Javier and I are THRILLED to announce that our book will be launching soon - our official date is April 15.

A year ago we were immersed in research. Over the next couple of weeks, I will share some key lessons we learned in the process of writing and publishing a non-fiction book.

Lesson #1 - Crowdsourcing is a great way to kick off your research.

When Javier and I settled on our topic we gathered tons of information. It was a bit overwhelming and hard to narrow it down to the most important things. We had a basic outline of where we wanted to go but didn't want to end up with a 1200 page book that no one would read. We decided to interview more than 30 executives to help us refine our thinking so we could focus on the most important factors. We then used this information to craft a survey and gathered input from more than 600 people. Both efforts helped us build our framework, assessments and ultimately helped us to craft the narrative for each of the five sections of the book.
