Lesson #3 - The Power of Stories

I've always found storytelling to be a great coaching tool - whether I am sharing a story with someone in a coaching conversation or when I am hearing it when someone is providing coaching to me.

When writing a non-fiction book, it is a good idea to be on the lookout for relevant stories. Stories bring your narrative to life and make your non-fiction writing sound less like a textbook. Javier and I identified places in each section of our book where a story would help.

We used some stories from our own lives, stories that friends and former colleagues shared with us, and stories that we discovered through our research. We collected many more stories than we used in the book. We saved the extra stories for future use in workshops, consulting, coaching or perhaps a future book.
